Jakarta Makes It Rain – Literally – With Cloud Seeding Before Kanye West Show

Kanye West‘s first concert in Indonesia came with preparations that reached beyond the stadium: Jakarta’s governor ordered cloud seeding ahead of the rapper’s show and a major running festival.

The city wanted rain before a packed weekend to bring down the heat for concertgoers, runners and residents. Ye performed Saturday, October 24, at Gelora B### Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta.

Governor Pramono Anung directed the city’s Disaster Mitigation Agency to carry out the weather operation on October 22 and 23, in coordination with Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency.

“I’ve ordered them (BPBD) to carry out cloud seeding on October 22 and 23,” Pramono said, according to Jakarta’s official news service.

That was a city order, not a special effect for a concert. The plan covered the Jakarta Running Festival and Ye’s appearance, and Pramono said rainmaking would depend on sufficient cloud cover. He also called for efforts to trigger rain through October 25, where conditions allowed.

Inside GBK, the production had a world of its own. A giant globe-shaped stage sat at the center of Ye’s performance, with a 360-degree setup that Indonesia’s Ministry of Creative Economy had highlighted in its official event listing. The listing named Raw Vision Collective and PT Global Loket Sejahtera as organizers.

The show brought to life a date announced in July. Jakarta had been billed as the only Southeast Asian stop on Ye’s 2026 tour, making the stadium appearance his first concert in Indonesia.

Medcom reporter Basuki Rachmat, who watched from the festival area, reported that Ye appeared at 9 P.M. and performed 32 tracks over nearly two hours. Fireworks, lasers and screens above the stands added to the globe-stage production.

The set included “Bound 2,” “Heartless,” “Jesus Walks” and “Ghost Town.” Rachmat described little interaction with the crowd, with the show leaning on the songs and visuals rather than between-song conversation.

Rachmat also described orderly entry, from gate checks to the crowd’s passage into the stadium.

Ye closed the night with “Runaway.” Beyond the stage, the concert also had late-night transport support: Medcom reported extended MRT operating hours to help fans get home.
