Jay-Z brought Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Too $hort to his SoFi Stadium finale Saturday for a night packed with West Coast classics.
The October 24 show capped his anniversary concert series in Inglewood with a sold-out crowd and songs from across his career.
Snoop performed “Murder Was the Case” before Dre joined him for a guest set that drew on their shared catalog. The pair performed “California Love” and “Still D.R.E.,” plus “The Next Episode” and “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang.”
Too $hort had helped get the night started with “Blow the Whistle” after Jay opened the show with “The Watcher 2.”
Jay also honored Nipsey Hussle by displaying his image on the screen and weaving his music into the set. The tribute included “Hussle & Motivate,” while “On to the Next One” featured the instrumental from “Last Time That I Checc’d.”
USA Today reporter Caché McClay placed Jay’s arrival at about 9:25 p.m. before he greeted the stadium crowd.
“Thank you for being here tonight. Tonight is special.”
His own selections ranged from “Dead Presidents” and “D’Evils” to “Song Cry,” with “Never Change” also in the set.
There was room for “99 Problems” and “Money, Cash, Hoes,” along with “Girls, Girls, Girls” and “Excuse Me Miss.” He finished with “Empire State of Mind,” “Big Pimpin’,” “Public Service Announcement,” and “Encore” as the last four songs.
Friday offered another set of guests as Blue Ivy Carter played piano for her father during “The Story of O.J.” and “Dead Presidents.”
Scarface joined him for “This Can’t Be Life” and “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” during the first of the two SoFi shows. John Legend and DJ Khaled closed Friday with “God Did” after Jay opened the night with “Hovi Baby.”
Beyoncé watched Friday from a suite with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, giving the crowd an offstage Destiny’s Child reunion.
The run marked 30 years since Reasonable Doubt and 25 since The Blueprint, with earlier shows in New York, London and Paris.
