Jennifer Lopez, Robert Zemeckis and Netflix jointly denied a report that the star and director were at odds over the edit of “The Last Mrs. Parrish.”
In a joint statement to Page Six, the three said: “Any suggestion that the filmmakers are not working in unison is without merit.”
The outlet cited unnamed sources who claimed Lopez had pushed to take control of the editing process after poor test screenings. It also reported that she and Zemeckis worked on a cut together last week and were expected to meet again next week.
Netflix disputed the account of the screenings, too, telling the outlet: “The film tested well, particularly with fans of Jennifer.”
Lopez has a producing role on the thriller as well as a starring part. Her Nuyorican Productions partners Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina are also producers, alongside Molly Sims for Something Happy Productions and Liza Chasin for 3dot Productions.
That puts the singer and actress on both sides of the camera for a film whose shoot ended in November 2025, according to What’s on Netflix. Filming took place in New York and New Jersey.
The movie adapts “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” a novel by sisters Lynne Constantine and Valerie Constantine, who write together as Liv Constantine. Their website lists the Netflix adaptation as being in post-production.
Lopez plays Daphne Parrish opposite Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as her husband, Jackson. Isabel May plays Amber Patterson, the outsider who wants a place in their wealthy world. Amber builds a friendship with Daphne while pursuing Jackson, hoping to replace the wife.
Andrea Berloff, John Gatins and Lisa Rubin are the writers attached to the adaptation. The cast also includes Debi Mazar and Denis O’Hare.
Lopez brought experience as a producer and star to the project. She held both roles on “Hustlers”, the 2019 film directed by Lorene Scafaria. Its $33.2 million opening weekend was then the biggest for a live-action movie led by Lopez, passing the $23 million debut of “Monster-in-Law.”
“Hustlers” also brought Cardi B and Lizzo into an ensemble with Constance Wu, Julia Stiles and Keke Palmer. The film opened at No. 2 behind “It: Chapter Two.”
