John Legend Reveals No Jay-Z Super Bowl Invite & Backs A Solo Show

John Legend hasn’t received a Super Bowl invitation from Jay-Z, but when he discussed the halftime show, the singer backed Hov’s ability to handle the performance without a single guest.

The Roc Nation artist addressed the subject in an interview with radio host Fadam Got Da Juice. Legend said Jay had not yet contacted him about appearing at the 2027 show.

“I wouldn’t be mad if he said ‘I’m not bringing no guest out,'” Legend said.

He praised the rapper’s catalog as enough to carry halftime on its own. As for his connection to Jay’s company, Legend put it plainly: “I’m part of the family.”

Legend’s place in Jay-Z’s circle extends beyond the stage. AllHipHop reported his management move to Roc Nation earlier this year, after he left Ty Stiklorius and Friends at Work. Jay Brown took over his music management following roughly two decades with his previous team.

Legend was G.O.O.D. Music’s first signed artist, although he never signed directly to Roc-A-Fella Records.

Stiklorius said she would keep working with Legend on business ventures they had developed together. That move put his management in the hands of the company that also helps produce the NFL’s halftime show.

On October 23, Legend and DJ Khaled joined Jay at SoFi Stadium to perform their 2022 collaboration “God Did.” They appeared after Jay finished his main set with “Public Service Announcement,” returning the singer to the same venue that will host the Super Bowl.

That concert was part of Jay’s anniversary run celebrating 30 years of Reasonable Doubt. Scarface and Blue Ivy Carter also appeared during the October 23 show.

The NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation announced Jay-Z as the headliner for February 14, 2027, at SoFi in Inglewood, California. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he had asked Jay to perform when the timing felt right. Jay initially turned down the idea when Roc Nation partnered with the league in 2019.

The upcoming performance will be Jay’s first time headlining the halftime show. Roc Nation will executive produce the broadcast performance, with Hamish Hamilton directing.
