TRELAWNY, Jamaica — President-elect of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA), Dr Maureen Mullings-Nelson, was rushed to hospital on Thursday afternoon after sustaining multiple injuries in a two-vehicle crash on the Duncans main road in Trelawny. The crash, which occurred about 3:30 pm, involved two Honda CR-V motor vehicles. Mullings-Nelson was a passenger in one of the vehicles, which was travelling from Montego Bay, St James, towards Kingston after a JTA Central Executive meeting at the Sea Gardens Hotel. The Jamaica Observer understands that Mullings-Nelson sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. The driver of the other Honda CR-V reportedly suffered minor injuries. It was not immediately clear whether the driver of the vehicle in which Mullings-Nelson was travelling was physically harmed. The crash resulted in a lengthy traffic pile-up along the roadway as emergency personnel responded to the scene. Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Jamaica Constabulary Force were among those who responded. Further information on Mullings-Nelson’s condition were not immediately available.
