Kash Dies At 29 After Oakland Shooting, Woman Arrested

Kash died at 29 after a shooting in Oakland, and police arrested a woman from Richmond in connection with the reality TV personality’s death.

Her relatives identified her as Mackayla Paige to KTVU, which spoke with loved ones at a memorial near the scene. Now That’s TV also confirmed her death in a tribute to the performer, who appeared on several of its shows.

Officers responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, October 11, to the 200 block of 14th Street. Police said they found a woman with a gunshot wound, tried to save her and had her taken to a hospital, where she died.

Police arrested a woman from Richmond in connection with the shooting. They had not released her name or said what led to the gunfire. The victim was also from Richmond, according to police.

As investigators worked on the case, Paige’s family began building a memorial near 14th and Harrison streets. Her cousin, Nicky Clayton, described someone who was still making plans for her future in entertainment and business.

Clayton told KTVU that Paige had modeled for companies, wanted to build a business and hoped to work in makeup. Reality TV was part of those ambitions, and her cousin said she wanted to become a star.

Paige had spent time with family before the shooting. She also shared Instagram Stories from a night out Saturday, according to KTVU. Clayton said she did not know what had happened between that time and the killing.

“I’m in disbelief,” Clayton told the station.

Poodahh, who spoke with KTVU at the memorial, remembered the encouragement she received from Kash and how she pushed her to do more with her life.

“She’s not gone. I can’t speak to her in the past tense,” Poodahh said.

Now That’s TV’s Sunday statement named Paige and credited her appearances on YNR, Roommhates and Now That’s Riot. The network sent condolences to her family, friends and fellow cast members.

“Though her time with us was far too short, her memory will live on,” the network wrote.

Oakland’s homicide unit is investigating. Police asked anyone with information to call 510-238-3821 or the tip line at 510-238-7950.
