Keke Wyatt Addresses Assault Case And Denies Reported Child Cruelty Charge

Keke Wyatt says Henry County court papers list only simple assault and wants reports naming child cruelty and terroristic threats corrected.

“Contrary to information currently being circulated, the Henry County court documentation reflects one charge: SIMPLE ASSAULT,” her representatives said in the statement Wyatt shared. “Keke Wyatt WAS NOT charged with Cruelty to Children, Terroristic Threats and Acts, or Aggravated Assault as has been reported by certain media outlets.”

CBS Atlanta reviewed a Henry County booking entry under Wyatt’s legal name, Ketara Wyatt Darring, listing aggravated assault, terroristic threats and third-degree cruelty to children.

Wyatt’s representatives say the court papers instead identify simple assault as the only charge in her case. They did not release those court papers or explain whether the allegations listed at booking were later changed or declined.

AllHipHop’s earlier arrest coverage described the broader list as charges Wyatt faced, an account her statement now contests.

Her statement calls on outlets carrying inaccurate charging information to correct their reports. The available reporting does not establish why the booking entry and her team’s account differ.

Wyatt’s representatives placed particular emphasis on correcting reports that connected her arrest to an alleged offense involving children.

“We are particularly concerned by the circulation of allegations involving cruelty to children, as this is an extremely serious characterization and is not a charge reflected in the court documentation in this matter,” the statement says.

The third-degree designation in the reported booking entry concerned a child witnessing the alleged incident during the custody exchange.

That designation did not mean the booking entry accused Wyatt of physically injuring any of the children reportedly present. Her representatives maintain that the court documentation they reviewed contains no child cruelty charge against the singer.

The arrest followed an alleged confrontation during a Sept. 20 custody exchange in Henry County, Georgia. TMZ’s account of the arrest warrant says a witness accused Wyatt of extending a black 9mm Beretta through a car window and threatening another woman. The outlet reported that three children were nearby when the confrontation described in the warrant allegedly took place.

The affidavit gives the witness’s account, not a finding that Wyatt made the threat. TMZ reported that Wyatt acknowledged holding the gun when questioned by police but denied pointing it through the window or threatening anyone.

The statement from Wyatt’s representatives did not address the witness’s claims or Wyatt’s reported account to police. They said they would handle the pending matter through the courts and asked that reports about the charges be corrected.

“We are not offering excuses or asking anyone to prejudge the circumstances surrounding the case. We are simply asking that facts be reported responsibly and that inaccurate information—particularly information involving children—not continue to be repeated as fact.”

Wyatt was booked Sept. 20 and released two days later on a $1,050 bond, according to TMZ’s account of the sheriff’s office information.

Neither the booking information cited in news reports nor Wyatt’s statement resolves what charge is currently before the court without the underlying court record.

The dispute comes as Wyatt continues the career built partly on her duets with Avant, including “My First Love” and “Nothing in This World.”

Her team also addressed promoters directly: “Keke Wyatt’s performance schedule remains unchanged. She will continue to fulfill all confirmed and new contractual engagements and appearances as scheduled.”
