Kodak Black Avoids Drug Trafficking Charges With Second Major Legal Win In A Week

Kodak Black is walking away from serious legal trouble this week after prosecutors and judges sided with his defense team on two separate cases.

The 29-year-old rapper caught a major break when Orange County prosecutors decided they couldn’t prove the MDMA found in a Lamborghini belonged to him, meaning he won’t face charges in that May arrest.

Just days earlier, a Broward County judge tossed his fleeing and eluding charge from a February traffic stop, ruling that the initial encounter was consensual and no lawful order was ever given.

His attorney Bradford Cohen is celebrating the momentum.

“This week was very good for Mr. Kapri…he’s relieved,” Cohen told reporters.

Cohen praised the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office for their fairness, contrasting their approach with other prosecutors he’s dealt with who he believes factor in an artist’s fame when deciding whether to charge.

The Orange County case centered on 25 grams of MDMA discovered in a pink bag inside a Lamborghini SUV during a November incident near a nonprofit in west Orlando.

While documents with Kodak’s name were found in the bag, along with items matching his Instagram posts, prosecutors ultimately couldn’t establish possession beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Broward dismissal came after Cohen argued that body camera footage showed the deputy greeted Kodak casually from a distance without issuing any commands, making the entire encounter consensual rather than a lawful traffic stop.

Kodak’s legal wins come amid a complicated family situation.

His baby mother Jammiah Broomfield remains facing drug trafficking charges after her April arrest in Fort Lauderdale on methamphetamine trafficking allegations.

She was caught with nearly 30 grams of meth and $1,010 in cash, according to body camera footage released in July.

The rapper’s legal history is extensive, with an Orange County judge noting in May that he had 12 previous felony convictions.

In 2021, President Donald Trump commuted his federal prison sentence after Kodak had served half of a three-year term for falsifying documents used to purchase firearms.

Cohen shared the news on Instagram Wednesday with a message that read, “Never falling off…they asked me what would happen if you lose? I guess we will never know…,” paraphrasing a Kanye West quote.
