Kris Kross’s Chris Smith Responds To Jermaine Dupri Parents Allegations

Kris Kross‘s Chris Smith is pushing back hard on Jermaine Dupri after the So So Def architect suggested the parents of Kris Kross were not around when the money started coming in.

And this one clearly struck a nerve.

JD has been talking about the early days of Kris Kross, the teenage duo of Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly and Chris “Daddy Mac” Smith who became a Hip-Hop phenomenon after “Jump” exploded in 1992. But apparently, something Dupri said about their parents did not sit right with Smith.

Not even a little bit.

Smith responded with a lengthy statement defending his family and challenging Dupri’s version of events.

“It’s disappointing how, culturally, we’re so quick to tear each other down. As the saying goes: ‘It be your own people.’ But let’s set the record straight: claiming ‘the parents were not there when it started’ proves you have no clue what you’re talking about.

Our parents were our only constant.

They protected us.

They did what any good parents would do. I’ve learned there are no true friends in this business, and targeting my parents is low.

Losing my father didn’t teach me his immeasurable worth-it just magnified the immense emptiness of life without him. I am forever grateful for my parents, and to every single Kris Kross supporter.

Deep.

There is obviously history here. Dupri did not simply produce Kris Kross. He discovered the duo and helped transform two Atlanta kids into international stars. Their success also became a foundational chapter in the So So Def story.

But Smith is making an important distinction. Being central to Kris Kross professionally does not necessarily mean JD saw everything happening inside their families.

And Smith is unequivocal about what he remembers.

His parents were there.

The reference to his late father makes the disagreement considerably more personal. This is no longer simply Hip-Hop veterans debating who remembers the 1990s correctly. Smith believes the reputation of people who protected him as a child is being questioned.

There may be two radically different perspectives on what happened behind the scenes during Kris Kross’ meteoric rise.

But one thing seems certain.

Chris Smith is not letting anybody rewrite his parents out of his story.
