LeBron James Gets Chippy, Cusses Out Heckling Knicks Fans At 76ers Debut

LeBron James got an earful from New York Knicks fans during his Philadelphia 76ers debut, but the NBA legend gave them a mouthful before he left Madison Square Garden.

First of all, he walked away with a victory.

Watch this though!

The 41-year-old superstar and the Sixers opened his record 24th NBA season Tuesday night with a 106-100 win over the defending champion Knicks, whose fans apparently had some unfinished business with King James. He even has a special pin with “24” on it.

As LeBron approached the free throw line, the Garden erupted with a rather unwelcoming message.

“We don’t want you! We don’t want you!”

Now, that’s some New York hospitality!

James and his agent, Rich Paul, at one point indicated that New York would have been his preferred free agency destination if the Knicks hadn’t captured the chip. That was their first NBA championship since 1973, the year Hip-Hop was “born.” That is a long time!

Instead, LeBron landed in Philadelphia, where the Sixers have assembled a formidable collection of talent in pursuit of their first championship since 1983.

The Knicks might want to reconsider those chants. There was more, as seen above in the video.

James finished with 14 points and nine rebounds while Tyrese Maxey contributed 28 points. Jaylen Brown added 19, and Joel Embiid recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds. Great showing of force!

The Sixers also displayed some promising chemistry, which has not manifested fully yet. They had a nice 11-0 third quarter run.

“We did that on the fly,” James said…and with the Eagles not flying, Philly kinda needs this energy from the Sixers.

Y’all know it’s wild when Spike Lee attempts to calm a situation. Imagine Spike Lee negotiating a Knicks ceasefire during opening night!? Wild night!

Big Bron did nothing to diminish the significance of New York’s championship celebration.

“I wouldn’t say that,” James said. “It was a great night for New York fans. Fifty-plus years. I was a part of that at one point where we hadn’t won a major championship in Cleveland in over 50 years. The fans will never forget this moment.”

The biggest question is whether James, Embiid, Brown and Maxey can translate their impressive individual résumés into a championship. That is truly all that matters and they have two years to accomplish it.

For now, LeBron has one victory, Knicks fans have their banner, and the Eastern Conference has a fascinating new rivalry.

We gon’ see!
