Lil Durk Trial: OTF Vonni Admits He Controlled Rapper’s Financial Identity

Lil Durk gained a potent defense argument Tuesday when his former assistant admitted controlling the rapper’s money and identity while conducting separate financial fraud.

Kavon Grant, known as OTF Vonni, made the admissions during Day 9 cross-examination in Lil Durk’s federal murder-for-hire trial in Los Angeles.

Drew Findling tied that access directly to purchases prosecutors say connect Lil Durk to the 2022 operation targeting Quando Rondo.

The exchange expanded the credibility fight surrounding OTF Vonni beyond his cooperation deal, shifting attention toward whether Lil Durk’s name reliably proves his approval.

Findling read OTF Vonni’s own words from his first FBI interview: “I had his wallet in my back pocket. I know your bank account card. I know your log-in. So credit, debit, whatever, I know everything. I know the PINs, I know your Social Security number by heart. I know everything. I know where your kids’ mothers stay. I know where their grandmothers stay.”

The admission matters because prosecutors have used expenses bearing Lil Durk’s name to support their claim that he financed the alleged retaliation.

The Justice Department’s charging summary cited a card in Lil Durk’s name for ski masks and the alleged crew’s hotel room.

However, OTF Vonni acknowledged possessing everything needed to make those transactions without showing that Lil Durk personally authorized each purchase.

Findling then returned to OTF Vonni’s arrest interview, when an FBI agent said the available evidence made him appear to be the coordinator.

“Right now, it looks like you coordinated this,” the agent told him.

OTF Vonni’s immediate response pointed away from himself: “You saw his name on the credit cards.”

Findling argued that answer became OTF Vonni’s insurance policy once investigators warned him that a conviction could mean mandatory life imprisonment.

The defense gained more material when Findling examined the contents of OTF Vonni’s phone, which investigators seized during his October 2024 arrest.

“There were pictures of people’s IDs,” Findling said. “Do you remember that?”

“Yes,” OTF Vonni answered.

“Social security information. You understand that?”

“Yes. Not all original. All fraudulently created, yes,” OTF Vonni replied.

OTF Vonni also admitted using encrypted applications and operating a Telegram account under “El Mayo,” the name of a Mexican cartel leader.

Asked why he selected that identity, OTF Vonni answered, “Yeah. I didn’t pick a lawyer. I didn’t pick a judge. I picked a criminal.”

Those admissions let Lil Durk’s lawyers present a concrete alternative explanation for the financial records, rather than merely asking jurors to distrust a cooperating witness.

A cardholder’s name can identify an account, but it cannot independently establish who physically made a transaction or gave permission.

The government can answer that OTF Vonni was Lil Durk’s day-to-day assistant, making routine access to the rapper’s money consistent with his job.

OTF Vonni also testified that Lil Durk ordered specific purchases, travel and preparations, giving prosecutors testimony that goes beyond card records alone.

The financial documents therefore still corroborate when and where purchases occurred, although OTF Vonni’s admissions complicate claims about who directed them.

His credibility already faced pressure from jail calls in which he described testimony as a “job interview” and openly discussed avoiding life imprisonment.

“I’m dressing to impress,” OTF Vonni said during one call. “I’m speaking to impress, well rested, well fed, have my lunch box.”

He later framed his choice more bluntly: “You wanna go home or you wanna get life? I wanna go home.”

Lil Durk has pleaded not guilty, while his attorneys maintain OTF Vonni organized the violence and shifted blame after investigators identified him as the apparent boss.

Prosecutors maintain OTF Vonni followed Lil Durk’s directions, and his plea agreement requires truthful testimony despite his hope for a reduced sentence.

Jurors return at 8:30 A.M. Wednesday as the defense continues cross-examining OTF Vonni about his evolving account and cooperation with prosecutors.
