Lil Durk Trial: “Smoking On Lul Pab” Recording Played For Jurors

Federal prosecutors played a chilling jail call during Lil Durk’s murder-for-hire trial in which OTF associate Antonio “Boonie Moe” Jones allegedly mocked Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson days after his murder.

FBI Supervisory Special Agent Cody Burke testified Wednesday that investigators obtained the call between Boonie Moe and DeShawn Pal. The conversation occurred approximately five days after Robinson was killed on August 19, 2022.

Prosecutors replayed the brief recording while Burke identified Boonie Moe as the more distant voice.

“Smoking on Lul Pab,” Boonie Moe allegedly said. Another man could be heard laughing after the remark.

Lil Durk was not on the call. However, prosecutors later presented evidence they say shows the rapper continued publicly associating with Boonie Moe and Kacey Hester, known as OTF Jam, after Lul Pab’s death.

Burke testified that investigators conducted an open-source review of Lil Durk’s social media activity. Prosecutors displayed a February 27, 2023, post from the rapper’s account promoting Boonie Moe’s music video “We Did It.”

The video included images of Boonie Moe, OTF Jam and a mural honoring Dayvon “King Von” Bennett.

The title of a music video is not proof of a crime.

Prosecutors did not establish that “We Did It” referred to Lul Pab’s murder. However, the government appears to be using the post to show that Lil Durk remained connected to people allegedly involved in the events surrounding the shooting.

Boonie Moe’s alleged role has surfaced repeatedly during the trial.

OTF Jam testified that he received instructions through Boonie Moe to travel from Chicago to Southern California on August 18, 2022. OTF Jam claimed Lil Durk was communicating with Boonie Moe through a separate phone during that conversation.

According to earlier testimony about the alleged Quando Rondo operation, OTF Jam and several other men flew into San Diego before traveling to Los Angeles.

OTF Jam said Boonie Moe told him the group was being assembled to target Tyquian “Quando Rondo” Bowman. The defense later established that OTF Jam initially called Boonie Moe twice before Boonie Moe returned the call.

The government alleges Lil Durk ordered and financed the operation as retaliation for King Von’s November 2020 death. King Von was killed during a confrontation involving members of Quando Rondo’s entourage outside an Atlanta nightclub.

Prosecutors claim members of the alleged crew followed Quando Rondo around Los Angeles in a white BMW and a stolen Infiniti. The surveillance ended at a gas station near the Beverly Center, where several gunmen opened fire on Quando Rondo’s vehicle.

Quando Rondo survived, but his 24-year-old cousin, Lul Pab, was fatally wounded.

Three cooperating witnesses have now described their alleged involvement. OTF Jam, Kavon “OTF Vonni” Grant and Keith “Flacka” Jones pleaded guilty and testified that Lil Durk stood behind the operation.

OTF Vonni detailed two alleged attempts to kill Quando Rondo, including an unsuccessful 2021 shooting in Georgia and the fatal 2022 attack in Los Angeles.

Lil Durk’s attorneys contend the cooperating witnesses are violent criminals trying to avoid mandatory life sentences. The defense maintains OTF Vonni controlled the stolen vehicles, firearms, travel arrangements and financial transactions before blaming his former employer.

The sequence gives the government another way to portray OTF as a group whose relationships continued after Lul Pub was killed.

The jail call showed Boonie Moe allegedly taunting the victim, while the later social media post documented Lil Durk’s account promoting Boonie Moe alongside OTF Jam.

Lil Durk has pleaded not guilty and could face life in federal prison if convicted. Closing arguments are expected to begin Tuesday, September 8.
