Lil Nas X Celebrates Democratic Sweep With Abortion Joke

Lil Nas X celebrated the Democratic Party’s 2026 midterm sweep with five words that instantly put his sense of humor back in the political conversation.

“WE ALL GETTING ABORTIONS TONIGHT!” the Grammy-winning artist wrote on X after the election results rolled in Wednesday (November 4).

The joke landed after Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress. The Associated Press reported the party flipped at least seven Senate seats and more than two dozen House districts, including races in places Donald Trump carried comfortably in 2024.

The results also reached deep into state government. Democrats won governor’s races in Georgia, Ohio, Iowa and Texas, while the party gained or kept full control in several states.

The sweep produced a string of firsts, including the country’s first Black female governor, first Native American female senator and first Muslim senator.

The same election map kept reproductive rights in view: Idaho voters rejected an abortion-rights measure, and incoming Democratic majorities have listed healthcare and abortion protections among their priorities.

That is familiar ground for an artist who has used short, high-impact posts to make larger arguments about sexuality, religion and who gets to police public behavior.

The post also came during a personal and professional reset.

Lil Nas X returned on October 1 with “World’s Greatest,” his first new song of 2026.

The video was filmed in Atlanta and dedicated to his late mother, Tamikia Hill. In announcing it, he repeated her advice to “walk by faith, not by sight.”

The song followed months of treatment and therapy after his 2025 arrest and hospitalization.

In April, a Los Angeles judge said felony battery charges would be dismissed if he completed a two-year mental health diversion program. By June, the rapper said he was doing better and working toward new music.

Now his first big political reaction since that return is a one-line joke tied to a result with real consequences: Democrats will enter 2027 able to block legislation, reject nominees and investigate the Trump administration from Capitol Hill.
