Lil Real One’s Angola Killing Will Bring Murder Charge, Officials Say

Lil Real One‘s killing at Angola is expected to lead to a second-degree murder charge against another inmate, according to officials who spoke with WBRZ.

West Feliciana Parish Sheriff Brian Spillman told the station the 41-year-old rapper, whose real name was Brandon Guidry, died from injuries after a fight. Officials had not confirmed the other inmate’s identity when the report was published.

The planned charge follows the family’s earlier account of Lil Real One’s death, which AllHipHop covered before officials disclosed the expected murder charge.

Relatives previously told The Lens that Lil Real One was handcuffed and shackled when he was stabbed at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. That account came from his family. WBRZ’s report did not establish whether he was restrained during the attack.

His younger sister, Turiya Om Guidry, said she first learned what happened through calls from men inside Angola. When the family spoke with The Lens, relatives said prison officials had given them no information about the attack.

“Nobody from the prison called me and told me anything,” she told the outlet.

A Louisiana Department of Corrections spokesperson declined to discuss the incident on October 26, telling The Lens it was under investigation.

Lil Real One was serving life plus 50 years for a fatal French Quarter shooting. An Orleans Parish jury convicted him in December 2016 of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder, according to WVUE’s reporting carried by WAFB.

The March 21, 2015 shooting outside Last Call Bar and Grill, near Bourbon and Conti streets, killed 25-year-old musician Bruce Tims and wounded another man.

Court records cited by WVUE described a confrontation with the surviving victim before the shooting. Lil Real One sprayed that man with pepper spray, then returned about an hour later with a gun.

Before prison, Lil Real One grew up in New Orleans East and bonded with Soulja Slim.

The late rapper mentored him, gave him his rap name and signed him to Cut Throat Comitty Records, The Lens reported. His sister said Slim’s 2003 killing disrupted those music plans, though her brother kept recording in later years.

His sister also sought donations for funeral, cremation and other final expenses, according to WVUE.
