Lil Wayne Concert Derailed Three Hours Before Showtime

Lil Wayne had to put his Charleston fans on hold Friday after weather and travel delays derailed his concert just hours before showtime.
The Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center postponed the October 16 stop on his “20 Years Of Carter Classics” tour. The West Virginia venue had scheduled doors for 7 P.M. and the performance for 8:30 P.M. Eastern. WCHS placed the announcement just after 5:30 P.M., leaving roughly three hours between the notice and the planned start.
No replacement date had been announced. The venue’s statement said tickets already purchased would remain valid when the show was rescheduled. Updates would appear on its website and go directly to ticketholders by email.
The notice blamed “inclement weather and travel delays” without identifying a flight, airport or particular storm. It also did not announce that other stops would be postponed. The tour’s next listed performance was Saturday at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Charleston had been on the calendar since March, when Lil Wayne extended his Carter celebration into another year. The venue advertised 2 Chainz as its special guest. Live Nation promoted the larger run as a celebration of more than two decades of the Tha Carter series, with 2 Chainz joining most dates and The Game appearing at select shows.
The new delay followed an earlier disruption on the same tour that eventually ended with Lil Wayne returning to perform. He missed the June 30 show in Bangor, Maine, after 2 Chainz had already played his set. Fans waited roughly two hours after the opening set, until around 11 P.M., before learning the headliner would not appear. Lil Wayne later explained that a severe migraine had put him at risk of a seizure that night. Charleston’s notice cited weather and travel rather than a health problem.
Lil Wayne subsequently apologized and returned to Maine Savings Amphitheater on July 28. The Bangor Daily News covered that makeup performance and reported that tickets from the original night were honored. He apologized again when he took the stage.
The Charleston venue said, “More information will be posted here and emailed to ticketholders directly when available.”
