Drake marked his 40th birthday with a gift from his own birth year: a red 1986 Ferrari Testarossa Monospecchio.
The car reportedly came from rapper Loe Shimmy. Classic car dealer Pole Position Classics found the vehicle and delivered it outside Casa Cipriani in New York, where Drake posed beside it.
The single outside mirror was a hallmark of the early Testarossa design. Ferrari mounted it high on the pillar beside the driver. Some owners added a matching mirror on the other side. In 1987, Ferrari changed the layout to two mirrors, putting one near the bottom of each side window instead of high on the pillar.
The wheels also helped place the car in its era. Early Testarossas used one central nut to secure each wheel. Ferrari changed to a five-bolt setup during 1988.
The Testarossa debuted at the Paris Motor Show in October 1984, two years before the model Drake received. Pininfarina designed the body, including the long side slats. Those openings fed air to two radiators mounted beside the engine, helping explain the wide rear end.
Under that body, the Testarossa used a flat-12 engine mounted behind the cabin. Leather trim, air conditioning and electrically adjustable seats added comfort inside. Drivers could also tilt the steering wheel to find a better position in the low car.
The celebration took place on October 23, the day before his October 24 birthday. AllHipHop previously reported on the party, which drew more than 400 friends and family members and included a surprise Backstreet Boys performance.
Inside the birthday party, guests had their own gifts to chase. Chanel and Hermès handbags were among the giveaways. A game show offered cash prizes starting in the five figures and reaching $1 million.
