Lucky Daye credited a management change with pushing him to take more control of his career ahead of his new album, ALOUD!.
The R&B singer discussed the shift with Vic Jagger on Majic 102.3, which published its interview account on October 12. Daye said moving to a different team made him take more responsibility for his own path, and he described a stronger resolve to follow through on his ideas.
“I don’t accept no now,” Daye told Jagger.
He tied that confidence to an album about learning who he is and giving himself room to live without so many limits. Their talk also touched on how his New Orleans roots and personal style shape his work.
He also changed labels this year, beginning his Warner Records partnership in June with “Nowhere Fast.” His earlier projects came out through RCA. Billboard’s announcement named Marc Jordan and Mecia Hollar of State of the Art Management as his managers.
But the first song under the Warner deal kept a key studio relationship in place. Daye reunited with D’Mile, the producer he worked with on his 2019 debut, Painted. Daye described “Nowhere Fast” as a call to slow down and focus on growth rather than rush toward the next goal.
Daye made the label move after “That’s You,” from his 2024 album Algorithm, won best traditional R&B performance at the 2025 Grammys. Bruno Mars co-wrote and co-produced that song, while Daye helped develop its New Orleans-set video with director Nick Walker.
Daye’s album statement for Warner put fun at the center of the project. He said people needed a break from the world’s problems, and he wanted songs that would help them dance, relax and feel free.
“With this project, I wanted to tap into a lighter side of myself,” Daye said.
The 15-song set pairs him with several guests from R&B and Hip-Hop. Leon Thomas joins “Fly U Out,” Pusha T appears on “Mouf Say” and Muni Long teams with The Paradox on “Knockin.” Akeem Ali is listed on “Woman First.”
ALOUD! is due October 16 through Warner Records.
