Macklemore Faces UK Ban Push From 50 Peers Before Wembley Benefit

Macklemore faces a push from 50 House of Lords members to bar him from Britain before his October 30 benefit concert.

The group asked Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to revoke his electronic travel authorization, according to Metro, which cited a letter The Telegraph reported.

Baron Walney, a former government adviser on political violence, wrote the letter, which objected to the Palestinian Youth Movement receiving some of the concert’s proceeds.

The peers accused the organization of links to terrorist groups and glorifying terrorism, allegations the Palestinian Youth Movement denied.

Metro said it sought comment from Macklemore and the Home Office, but its report included no response or decision revoking his permission to travel.

The entry demand followed his October 22 return to the stage at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where he again spoke up for Palestinians before a Colorado crowd.

“Being a human being in this moment is not complicated,” Macklemore said. “It is not political.”

He also addressed suffering beyond Gaza, speaking about Sudan, Congo, Lebanon and Haiti as well as people afraid of ICE in America.

“The message will always be love,” Macklemore told the Red Rocks audience.

Red Rocks was his first performance since losing the rest of his appearances as Ed Sheeran’s opening act. That dispute followed his September appearances at MetLife Stadium, where he publicly advocated for Palestinians.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft objected to Macklemore performing at Gillette Stadium, citing rhetoric and imagery he considered offensive to Jewish people. Macklemore distinguished his criticism of Israel from criticism of Jewish people and called for equal treatment.

Sheeran said the tour’s organizers made the decision and later apologized for how he handled the dispute during a Philadelphia concert.

The Wembley event page for “Macklemore & Friends: Free Palestine Tour” lists 12 beneficiaries, including the Palestinian Youth Movement, Medical Aid for Palestinians and UNRWA USA.

It says all proceeds will support the listed groups, whose work spans medical treatment, education, humanitarian relief and advocacy. The page does not specify how the money will be split among the 12 listed organizations.

The benefit series is due in Dublin on October 26, Paris on October 29 and then London.
