‘Mammy’ shot dead in Dover bar in St Mary

ST MARY, Jamaica — The St Mary police have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a 57-year-old bar operator in Dover, St Mary on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Marlene McCalla otherwise called “Mammy” of a Dover district address.
Police reports are that around 7:00 pm on Monday, the deceased was inside her business place when she was approached by a man posing as a customer.
The man reportedly shot McCalla multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Reports are that residents heard the gunshots and called the police. Upon arrival, lawmen reportedly saw McCalla’s body with several gunshot wounds. She was taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Residents say the tragedy had struck the family before as her brother had died in a similar manner.
At this time the police have not identified a motive for the killing as the investigation continues.
McCalla’s killing has brought the number of murders in the parish since the start of the year to 13.
