Hercy Miller will make his feature-film debut by playing his father, Master P, in Universal’s Snoop Dogg biopic.
Deadline first reported the casting as the movie added three more people to its expanding ensemble. Zachariah Rogers will portray The D.O.C., while actor and comedian Tyquan Givens, also known as Watts Homie Quan, will play an original character named B. Mack.
Miller’s role gives the film a direct family link to one of the most important turns in Snoop Dogg’s career. Master P signed Snoop to No Limit Records in 1998 after the rapper left Death Row Records.
Snoop released Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told that year, beginning a three-album run with the New Orleans label.
That chapter also connected two very different independent empires. Master P had built No Limit through a high-volume release schedule and distribution deal with Priority Records. Snoop entered the company as an established star looking for a new business home.
The younger Miller has spent much of his public life in basketball. He played college ball at Tennessee State, Louisville and Southern Utah before appearing on the Netflix reality series “Calabasas Confidential.” The Master P role now moves him into a scripted feature centered on his own family’s history.
“Snoop” is currently in production and is scheduled to reach theaters on August 6, 2027. Jonathan Daviss stars as Snoop Dogg, with Craig Brewer directing from his rewrite of Joe Robert Cole’s original script.
The cast already includes Myles Bullock Be as Dr. Dre, Camron Jones as Tupac Shakur, Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight and SwayvoTwain as The Notorious B.I.G. Lauren London plays Snoop’s mother, Beverly Tate, and Laya DeLeon Hayes plays Shante Taylor.
Cynthia Erivo recently joined the production as Afeni Shakur. AllHipHop reported that the casting placed the Oscar-nominated actress opposite Camron Jones’ Tupac while production continued in Southern California.
Snoop Dogg is producing the movie with Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum. Universal described the project as the first film under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment.
The new casting puts Master P’s son inside the story of the deal that helped reshape both men’s legacies. Miller will enter the movie at the point where Snoop’s West Coast career met No Limit’s Southern business machine.
