MC Lyte Lands Halftime Slot For WNBA Finals’ First Game 7

MC Lyte is headed to the WNBA’s deciding game with a halftime booking at San Francisco’s Chase Center. The San Francisco Chronicle reports she will perform Saturday, October 31, when the Golden State Valkyries host the Atlanta Dream.

Glide Ensemble will sing the national anthem, according to the report.

The WNBA confirmed this is its first Finals Game 7 after Atlanta tied the series 3-3 Thursday. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. Eastern, or 5 p.m. Pacific.

The booking comes during a year that has put Lyte’s music and her work for other artists in view. She is part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2026 class in its Musical Influence category. Her milestones include becoming the first solo female rapper to earn a Grammy nomination with “Ruffneck.”

On the road, she planned to give fans more than a quick run through her hits. In a September interview with AllHipHop, Lyte described the “Road To The Hall Of Fame” tour as a chance to reconnect with supporters in cities tied to her career.

She planned roughly 90-minute sets that left room for stories and conversation alongside the songs.

“It feels like I’m just returning home,” she told AllHipHop’s Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur at the time.

Lyte said she could build those shows around her own catalog without relying on guests. Friends could join her if they were nearby, but she wasn’t counting on cameos to carry the performances.

In that interview, she also discussed acting and directing work and projects involving VanVan, Ariel and DJ Germaine.

Away from the stage, she continued to press for changes in artist pay. SoundExchange honored her in August with its Music Fairness Award, citing her support for the American Music Fairness Act.

The organization said she met with lawmakers again this summer to urge the bill’s passage. That followed a 2024 Capitol Hill visit with DMC and Melle Mel.

She also runs Lyte Up Your Empire to help newer artists learn the music business.

“Advocacy has always been part of my purpose,” Lyte said in the August announcement.

Her tour itinerary also listed Atlanta shows for November 9 and 10, followed by Nashville on November 11.
