Mount Pleasant reportedly part ways with assistant coach
MOUNT Pleasant Football Academy have sacked Assistant Coach Davion Ferguson, the Jamaica Observer has learnt. The circumstances surrounding the reported parting of ways remain unclear, and the club has not publicly confirmed the development. Up to press time on Friday, efforts to obtain a comment from both Ferguson and Mount Pleasant Sporting Director Paul Christie proved futile as several calls went unanswered. News of the assistant coach’s departure came a day after Mount Pleasant advanced to the final of the Caribbean Club Championship by defeating Club Sando of Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in the second-leg semi-final at Sabina Park for a 3-1 aggregate success. Ferguson joined Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore’s technical staff at Mount Pleasant in 2022, and played a role in the St Ann-based club’s rise to the top of Jamaican football, including their maiden Jamaica Premier League (JPL) title in 2023. However, his first stint at the club ended in June 2024. Then, Mount Pleasant had opted against renewing the contracts of Whitmore, Ferguson and other members of the technical staff following their defeat to Cavalier FC in that season’s JPL final. Ferguson subsequently took up the head coach position at Portmore United in June 2024 but dramatically returned — along with Whitmore — to Mount Pleasant later that season. Before joining Mount Pleasant, Ferguson built his coaching résumé as a National Under-17 coach and in schoolboy football at Jamaica College.
