Nelly Turns To Ashanti For Cash After Losing At Spades To Michael Jordan

Nelly had to ask Ashanti for money after a spades game against Michael Jordan left him short on cash, with his wife there to see him lose.

The rapper recalled the night on “7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony,” where he joined Anthony, Monica and Kaz. The episode was released October 30 in the United States.

He and his younger brother had teamed up against Jordan and Charles Oakley. Nelly remembered winning early, then talking trash. Ashanti’s presence helped encourage the boasting, he explained, before the game turned in the other team’s favor.

“He did it in front of my woman,” Nelly said before asking Ashanti, “lost a lot of money that night. Babe, what you got in that pocket?” he recalled.

Oakley reminded him that he had warned him about talking too much. Still, Nelly described the experience warmly, recalling how much he enjoyed being welcomed into that circle.

The rapper and Jordan have both held stakes in the Charlotte Bobcats. AllHipHop reported in July 2004 that Nelly had become a part-owner alongside Bob Johnson. Jordan later joined the ownership group, then moved to take control of the team.

The NBA approved his purchase of a controlling interest on March 17, 2010. At the time of his investment, Nelly described owning part of the franchise as one of the biggest achievements of his career.

Fans will soon get more of Nelly and Ashanti’s life together through the second season of “Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together,” which premieres November 19 on Peacock. They are raising their toddler son Kareem, known as KK, while managing work that often takes them away from each other.

“We’re both on tour at different times, being in different places,” Nelly explained in the season’s trailer.

The series will also follow their decisions about showing their son on social media and the demands of a blended family.

Ashanti works on new recordings while Nelly deals with the physical strain of touring. Ashanti also moves between St. Louis and New York City as she balances motherhood, music and performances.
