New boys Tru Juice beat Molynes to go top of JPL

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Promoted side Tru-Juice extended their strong start to the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday as they edged Molynes United 1-0 at Stadium East to take over the lead in the points table. Tru-Juice are joined by Montego Bay United on seven points after the St James-based club ended Racing United’s perfect start, winning 1-0 in the first game of a double header at Drewsland. Meanwhile, defending champions Portmore United made a winning start to their title defense, beating Humble Lion 4-1, while Mt Pleasant FA got their first win, beating Dunbeholden 2-0. Cavalier FC outscored Arnett Gardens 3-2 while Waterhouse FC beat Treasure Beach FC 2-0 to win their second straight game. At Stadium East, Daniel Roberts scored in the 62nd minute, his third goal of the season, to lead Tru Juice to their second win of the season. The newcomers have gone three games without conceding a goal. Jourdain Fletcher scored his first goal of the season to give Montego Bay the win, firing a rebound past goalkeeper Aaron Ennis in the Racing goal in the 27th minute. Waterhouse scored two quick goals in the first half as they continued their good start to the season. Colorado Murray in the 35th minute and Mario Simms in the 37th minute punished mistakes by the Treasure Beach defense but, despite creating a handful of scoring chances, were unable to add to their tally. Cavalier FC held off Arnett Gardens 3-2 to win their first game at new home venue Turners Oval, after leading 2-0 after the first 20 minutes. Jeovanni Laing scored a stunning goal from well outside the area, into the far left corner to give Cavalier the lead in the 14th minute and Luis Watson doubled the advantage in the 20th minute with a powerful shot from close range. Arnett Gardens started the fight back when Giovanni Taylor, scored in the 26th minute before Jamone Shepherd pulled them level in the 70th minute, both scoring their third goals of the season. Cavalier reasserted themselves, however, and took all three points when Adrian Reid converted a penalty in the 83rd minute. It took Portmore just over 60 minutes to break down Humble Lion but, once they got the first goal, scored four in a 23-minute span with Tarick Ximines getting a double. Ximines opened the scoring in the 64th minute with Stephen Young getting a second in less than a minute. Ximines then completed his brace in the 70th minute before Kemar Mullings managed to pull a goal back for Humble Lion, their first goal of the season. Tedj Bryan restored Portmore’s three goals lead, scoring in the 87th minute. Mt Pleasant, who had failed to score in their first two games, both losses, scored two early goals, Trayvone Reid in the 17th minute and Nicholas Nelson in the 22nd minute, to hand Dunbeholden their third straight loss of the season. Meanwhile, Tivoli Gardens and Chapelton Maroons played out a 1-1 draw at the Edward Seaga Complex with two veteran players getting on the scoresheet. Leaunghn Williams gave Tivoli the lead in the 29th minute before Brian Brown equalised for Chapelton in the 40th minute.
