Nicki Minaj For White House Press Secretary? Trump Official Floats Wild Possibility

Nicki Minaj might be auditioning for a new career in Washington, and Donald Trump‘s communications director just gave the rumor an unexpected boost.

And no, this time it is not merely some random social media account stirring the political pot.

On Sunday, October 25, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted a video of himself interviewing the Hip-Hop superstar aboard Air Force One. His accompanying message immediately raised eyebrows.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!”

Yes, that is an actual statement from a senior White House official, although the interview appeared to be playful rather than a formal job interview.

Still, consider the circumstances.

The White House press secretary position is currently vacant after Katie Zacharia departed on October 16, following an extraordinarily brief five days in the position. President Trump reportedly isn’t rushing to find her replacement, particularly with the November 3 midterm elections approaching.

Enter Onika Tanya Maraj.

The Queens rap superstar has become an increasingly visible supporter of Trump, and her political involvement has certainly moved beyond social media commentary.

During the Air Force One conversation, Cheung asked Nicki about the economy, Trump’s campaign schedule and polling.

When asked whether anybody works harder than Trump on the campaign trail, Minaj responded:

“Absolutely not. You have a man who’s won three elections, you know, legacy media continues to attack him left and right, and what does he do? He wakes up at 4:00 in the morning, [and] he outworks people that are half his age.”

The timing is fascinating, as well as the framing. Three elections? Anyway.

Nicki was traveling with the president to Michigan for a political rally, and her appearance aboard Air Force One demonstrates just how prominently she now figures in Trump’s celebrity circle.

Imagine the White House briefing room filled with journalists asking questions about international affairs, only for the Queen of Rap to step behind the podium.

The Barbz would probably demand a livestream.

Here’s my question: Is Washington simply enjoying Nicki Minaj’s star power, or are we witnessing the beginning of something more substantial?
