Nicki Minaj Named Trump’s New Press Secretary In Jimmy Fallon Spoof

Nicki Minaj got a fake White House job when Jimmy Fallon made her the punchline of a skit about President Donald Trump’s search for a new press secretary.

The gag aired on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday (October 19). The show used a clip of Trump saying the rap star’s name as if he had just hired her.

AOL’s account of the sketch said that Fallon staged a mock chat with Katie Zacharia. The show cut clips from her first press briefing into answers to his questions.

He asked how long she had hoped to hold the job. The reply was “A very long time.” Asked how long she had lasted, the next clip gave him “Several days.”

The sketch also used a law license question for a gag. A clip supplied “From Amazon” as the answer to where she got her license.

At the end, Fallon said Trump was naming his new hire. The show cut to the president saying, “Nicki Minaj.”

Minaj’s real ties to Trump had already brought her to his small-business contest and to Fox News. AllHipHop reported in September that she went on “The Ingraham Angle” with Small Business Administration chief Kelly Loeffler.

The pair spoke about the Million Dollar Pitch Competition. Minaj had joined Grant Cardone and Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia as judges. The contest offered $1 million to small-business owners.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to work with this administration and to work with President Trump,” she said on the show.

She told Laura Ingraham that Trump made her feel heard. She also said she would not make excuses for her support of him.

Later that month, she urged young people to vote for Republicans on “My View with Lara Trump.” She told them to take part in local races as well as votes for president. Her plea stressed that they had a stake in how the country was run.

Fallon’s joke followed Zacharia’s October 16 exit after five days in the role. BBC’s “Global News Podcast” said she left as critics questioned her first briefing and her work in law.
