Nicki Minaj Promises Trump Her Support If He Runs Again

Nicki Minaj pledged to back Donald Trump if he ran again, extending her public support for the president to a hypothetical future campaign.

The rapper made the promise while speaking at Sunday’s Republican rally at McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron, Michigan. She joined Trump onstage October 25 as he campaigned for Republicans ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

“If you run again, I will support you again,” Minaj said, according to The Hill.

She also told Trump she would stay behind him “forever and ever,” making her closing remarks a pledge that reached beyond the candidates on Michigan’s ballot.

Trump is serving his second elected term. The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment bars a person from being elected president more than twice. Minaj framed her promise around what she would do if he ran again.

Her immediate appeal was for Michigan Republicans Mike Rogers and John James. Rogers is running for the U.S. Senate, while James is running for governor. Minaj urged the crowd to elect them and led chants of their names, according to MLive’s account of the rally.

Thousands attended the event nine days before Election Day. During her remarks, Minaj praised Trump’s resilience and credited his return to office with giving Americans hope. She also led the audience in a chant of “We love Trump!”

The pledge followed an Air Force One interview in which she explained why she trusted his judgment. Traveling to Michigan with the president, Minaj spoke with White House communications director Steven Cheung about Trump’s handling of money and his approach to other countries.

She pointed to his experience recovering from financial trouble and praised how hard he worked. Her comments tied her support to the personal qualities she said she saw in him, as well as his work helping other Republicans seek office.

That alliance had already taken her to a January 28 event for Trump Accounts, where she defended her support for the president despite criticism. She later appeared with Small Business Administration chief Kelly Loeffler during a September interview with Laura Ingraham.

The September appearance also involved the Million Dollar Pitch Competition. Minaj joined entrepreneurs Grant Cardone and Joe Gebbia as judges for the small-business contest, which offered a $1 million prize.
