Nicki Minaj Says New Answers Undercut Ex-Employee’s $3,900 Demand

Nicki Minaj asked a judge to reject her ex-manager’s $3,900 sanctions request, arguing she had already supplied the answers her former employee wanted.

Garrett sued Minaj and her company, Pink Personality, in January 2025 for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

His complaint claimed the rapper attacked him backstage at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on April 21, 2024, during her “Pink Friday 2 World Tour.”

Earlier this week, her lawyers said they answered six sets of written questions in July, met with Brandon Garrett’s attorneys in August and supplied more answers in September, MyNewsLA reported.

“(Garrett) should be barred from using the outdated motions to compel further responses after the verified further responses were served in July,” her lawyers wrote.

They argued that Garrett missed the deadline to challenge those responses. His $3,900 request sought to cover legal costs for bringing the discovery motion.

Garrett’s lawyers had complained that Minaj missed a February deadline and supplied inadequate answers in March. They wanted facts backing her denials about threats to his safety, lost wages and emotional harm.

Garrett said the dispute began after Minaj learned he had asked another employee to collect her prescriptions. Garrett said he delegated the errand because he was helping her change clothes for the show.

He alleged Minaj struck his face and wrist, knocking off his hat. Garrett said he then locked himself in a bathroom and later reported the incident to police. He sought damages to be determined at trial.

Minaj denied the claims through attorney Judd Burstein, who called the reported lawsuit “completely false and frivolous” when it emerged in January 2025.

The allegations also drew a police investigation.

FOX 2 Detroit reported on January 6, 2025, that Wayne County prosecutors declined a warrant request, saying there was insufficient evidence of a crime. They asked Detroit police to investigate further.

Judge Eric Harmon is scheduled to hear the discovery dispute on November 10 in Los Angeles Superior Court.
