Nicki Minaj White House Rumor Gets Four-Word Answer From Gavin Newsom’s Office

Gavin Newsom’s press office had four words for the prospect of Nicki Minaj becoming Donald Trump’s next White House press secretary: “We can only pray.”
The California governor’s team posted the reply on X in response to reports about White House staffers floating the rapper for the job. Newsom’s office also responded to Trump’s remarks about Minaj’s backside, posting: “An unlikely match. Then again, it all Depends.”
The rapper traveled with the president to Michigan and appeared at his rally as he campaigned for Republicans ahead of the November 3 midterms.
The job speculation grew out of an October 25 exchange with White House communications director Steven Cheung. AllHipHop previously covered his playful interview with Minaj aboard Air Force One, where he asked her about the economy, Trump’s campaign schedule and polling.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” Cheung wrote with the video.
Nicki Minaj shared Cheung’s post with an American flag and a sweating emoji. She praised Trump’s business experience and argued that his recovery from personal financial trouble gave her confidence in how he would handle the country’s finances.
She also praised his stamina on the campaign trail and his willingness to help other Republicans win elections.
The White House job talk followed Katie Zacharia’s five-day stint as press secretary in October and Karoline Leavitt’s departure in August.
Nicki Minaj had criticized Newsom at a Turning Point USA event in December 2025, where she appeared with Erika Kirk. In a TIME interview, she said she sought the governor’s help after swatting incidents at her home and received no reply.
“He just completely ignored me, with all the money I spent in taxes,” Minaj told TIME.
The magazine said Newsom’s office did not respond to its request for comment. Minaj said Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna later helped connect her with federal law enforcement and a private security firm.
