Nivea says she is in remission after receiving a chronic myeloid leukemia diagnosis earlier this year.
The R&B singer shared the update during an episode of Tamron Hall. Hall introduced the news to the audience, and Nivea became emotional as she described how quickly her condition changed.
“I’m very grateful,” Nivea said. “I’m tired a lot. I have other issues. I’m bleeding. I have fibroids.”
She said the medicine has worked, but the treatment and related symptoms have required real adjustments. Nivea also stressed that she wasn’t complaining because she knows many patients face harder outcomes.
The update is a major development from the diagnosis she first disclosed in July on Cadillac Chronicles. Her representative later identified the illness as chronic myeloid leukemia, or CML, a cancer that begins in blood-forming cells inside bone marrow.
Nivea said two bone marrow biopsy procedures were needed to confirm the diagnosis after the first attempt did not succeed. She was relieved doctors did not identify a blast phase that would have required chemotherapy as part of her treatment.
During the new television appearance, Nivea explained that she understood the medication’s success rate but still knew every patient’s response could be different. That made the remission finding difficult for her to believe only months after the original diagnosis.
AllHipHop reported her diagnosis in July after the singer said the experience had changed her outlook and pushed her to value people and daily life more deeply. At the time, she said treatment was progressing well and that she was returning to music.
Nivea’s catalog includes the R&B records “Don’t Mess With My Man,” “Laundromat,” and “Okay.” She has continued to identify music and motherhood as central parts of her life while navigating treatment.
Her remission announcement does not erase the symptoms or ongoing medical care.
It marks the clearest positive update since she first made the diagnosis public. For now, Nivea said she remains on the better side of the illness and is taking the difficult process one day at a time.
