‘Not here to complain’
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Member of Parliament (MP) for St Andrew North Central, Delano Seiveright has pledged to maintain an aggressive focus on constituency development, declaring that his responsibility is to deliver practical solutions rather than simply highlight Jamaica's problems. Delivering his first Constituency Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Seiveright outlined progress across infrastructure, community renewal, youth development, security and private sector investment. "I did not enter Parliament to become a professional commentator on Jamaica's problems. I came here to help solve them," he told the House. Declaring his intent to represent all residents equally, Seiveright said, “I work for the people of St Andrew North Central. Not for any special interest, privileged group or individual”. "Whether you live in Norbrook or Cassava Piece, Manor Park or 100 Lane, you deserve representation, respect and results." Among the initiatives highlighted by the first-term MP were improvements to Olivier Road, Long Lane and Orange Grove Road, ongoing SPARK road projects, Sandy Gully rehabilitation works in Donmair/Common and efforts to address persistent water shortages. Seiveright also pointed to accelerated zinc-fence removal in Cassava Piece and Park Lane, alongside continued community regularisation and infrastructure improvements at 85 and 85½ Red Hills Road. He announced that the constituency is developing a Jobs Bank to connect residents with employment and training opportunities. Emerging youth organisations in Donmair/Common and Cassava Piece are also receiving support, while more than 1,500 children and teenagers benefited from constituency back-to-school activities. The MP welcomed continued private-sector investment along Constant Spring and Red Hills Roads, including new commercial buildings, shopping facilities and dining establishments. He also highlighted plans to modernise the Manor Park commercial and transportation district. On security, Seiveright reported a 70 per cent reduction in murders and 71 per cent decline in shootings across the St Andrew North Police Division as at October 11. While acknowledging progress under the Andrew Holness-led Government, he stressed that significant challenges remain, particularly regarding municipal services, deteriorating roads and water supply. "I will not promise that every problem disappears overnight. I promise urgency, accessibility, persistence and results," he said. Seiveright concluded by challenging young people to look beyond the circumstances of their communities, remarking that, "your community must never determine the limits of your possibilities."
