NWC assessing chlorine spill at Mona Reservoir

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) says a chlorine leak that occurred at its Mona Reservoir Compound early Tuesday was quickly contained and an assessment is ongoing. In a statement this afternoon confirming the leak, the commission said an assessment of the incident is now underway, and anyone who may have been affected and is experiencing symptoms is being encouraged to seek medical attention. It noted that the leak had been remedied through the coordinated efforts of its emergency response team, the supplier, and the Jamaica Fire Brigade, and that the agency contacted a number of neighbouring premises to provide updates on the situation and the steps being taken to address it.
