André 3000 is stepping back into the Scooby-Doo universe after more than two decades, and this time he’s bringing serious acting credentials to the mystery-solving crew.
Netflix’s upcoming live-action reimagining of the beloved cartoon, titled Scooby-Doo: Origins, has locked in the Outkast legend for a recurring role alongside Oscar-nominated actress Cathy Moriarty, who’s known for her work in Raging Bull and the 1998 film Casper.
The series is currently filming in Atlanta and set to drop globally in 2027.
What makes this casting particularly interesting is André 3000’s history with the franchise.
Back in 2002, he co-wrote “Land of a Million Drums” for the original live-action Scooby-Doo film alongside Big Boi, Killer Mike, and Sleepy Brown.
Now he’s transitioning from behind-the-scenes contributions to an on-screen presence, continuing a career shift that’s been quietly impressive over the past decade.
His acting resume includes standout performances in “High Life,” “Four Brothers,” and “White Noise,” but his most acclaimed role came when he portrayed Jimi Hendrix in the 2013 biopic “Jimi: All Is by My Side,” earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for the lead performance.
Beyond those headline roles, André 3000 has shown real range across television and film.
He played Fredwynn on AMC’s Dispatches from “Elsewhere,” took a recurring role as Michael LaCroix in “American Crime,” and appeared in everything from “Semi-Pro” to *Be Cool” to the animated “Charlotte’s Web.”
This isn’t someone just showing up for a paycheck. He’s built a legitimate acting career that runs parallel to his music legacy.
“Scooby-Doo: Origins” is described as a modern take on the classic mystery-solving group, with the story centered on Shaggy and Daphne investigating a supernatural murder connected to a lost Great Dane puppy during their final summer at camp.
The main cast includes Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.
According to Deadline, the series has been generating strong internal buzz ahead of its 2027 release.
