Patrick confirms return to Molynes United with mission to restore consistency
Anthony Patrick has returned to Molynes United, a couple of years after a brief three-month stint at the club during the COVID-19 pandemic, but this time the experienced coach has a bigger mission — to restore consistency and revive their Jamaica Premier League campaign. Patrick, confirmed the news the Jamaica Observer broke on Tuesday, that he officially took charge following the departure of Jermaine Thomas, conducted his first training session with the team on Thursday morning, and immediately turned his attention to the five remaining matches in the current round. The former Racing United coach said he was delighted to be back at Molynes, where he believes there is enough quality within the squad to produce better results. “It's a welcome one for me. I'm really happy to be back. During the pandemic, COVID, I spent three months there when I was at Racing United,” Patrick said. His previous spell at Molynes was brief as he remained committed to Racing United, where he was focused on helping the Spanish Town-based club secure promotion to the Premier League. That mission was eventually accomplished, but with his Racing United chapter now behind him, Patrick said his attention is entirely on Molynes. “Now, I'm not at Racing [United] anymore. So, it's all about Molynes now. That's where my focus lies right now and my energy,” he said. Molynes United are sitting just above the relegation zone in 12th place on six points after losing six of their eight games. But Patrick believes there is sufficient quality within the Molynes squad to turn their fortunes around, pointing to their recent performances against Cavaliers as evidence of their potential. Molynes won the first encounter against Cavaliers but subsequently suffered a 2-1 defeat in the return fixture, a result Patrick believes did not reflect the team's capabilities. He said those performances convinced him that the players have the ability and desire to compete, but must find a way to produce consistently. “I think they should play the way they play that game. It really showed me that they have the quality. They really can play,” he reiterated. “I don't know what happened, but players sometimes are up, sometimes down. I hope we can get them to be very, very consistent. That is my job now," Patrick added. With five matches remaining in the current round, Patrick has set his sights on collecting as many points as possible to strengthen Molynes' position heading into the next phase of the competition. “The aim is to get as many points as possible. If we can get 15, that would be great. But if not, if we get something like 10 or 10-plus, that would be great also,” he said. But for now, Patrick is keeping his attention firmly on the five games ahead, knowing that a strong finish could provide the foundation for a much-needed revival.
