Pete Rock is backing his label Tru Soul Records’ first signee, AMXXR, with a full album titled DopeBoySoul, set for December 4, 2026.
The Mount Vernon, New York rapper has worked with Pete Rock for years. The legendary producer will craft their next project entirely, extending a partnership that already includes the mixtape 21 Grams: Worth Its Weight In Soul.
The first single, “What You Gonna Do,” arrived October 23, giving listeners a lead track ahead of the December release.
AMXXR described the song as a reflection on faith and growth, calling it a record about “seeing the blessing in the pressure, trusting God’s timing and becoming better than your last version.”
Tru Soul also has a catalog beyond AMXXR, with Pete Rock’s instrumental collection Return Of The SP1200 as the label’s debut release. That project gathered beats he made as a teenager in Mount Vernon and included additional scratches from J. Rocc of the Beat Junkies.
Pete Rock’s work with another MC has since earned Grammy attention.
His Common collaboration The Auditorium Vol. 1 was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2025 ceremony. As AllHipHop reported, the pair also received a Best Rap Performance nomination for “When the Sun Shines Again,” featuring Posdnuos.
Before the new album arrives, AMXXR is scheduled to share a bill with Pete Rock and Slum Village at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia on November 5. Rap veteran Hezekiah, Vice Soulectric and Cosmo Baker are also on the lineup for the 8 P.M. show.
