Plies Gets Emotional Thanking Black Women After Seeing Poll Volunteers

Plies had a message for Black women after he voted in the midterm elections: he saw their work and wanted them to know he appreciated it.

The Florida rapper said seeing Black women volunteer at his polling place moved him. In a video shared on Instagram, he explained that he was trying to keep his emotions in check, even avoiding a direct look at the camera as he spoke.

Plies thanked Black women “for how much y’all continue to sacrifice, continue to be on the right side of history, and just continue to be amazing people.”

His defense of Black women had also shaped his support for Kamala Harris in 2024.

In an August video on X, Plies questioned why people demanded explanations from a Black woman while accepting Trump’s record. Charlamagne Tha God pushed back, saying Black voters should be able to question candidates rather than accept what they were offered.

Before the current midterms, Plies had pushed against the idea that sitting out elections carried no cost. In October, Plies used another Instagram video to question why some Black voters had lost their enthusiasm for voting.

He pointed to the excitement around Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns and argued that political opponents wanted to prevent that energy from returning. He also cited redistricting and voting restrictions while laying out his concerns about Black turnout.

Plies criticized the attacks on Kamala Harris’ racial identity during her 2024 campaign, saying they were meant to weaken support for her.

Plies described his choice at the polls as protecting his community. He said he did not tell other people how to vote and was weighing which candidate would cause the least harm.

“I’m voting for who not gon’ hurt my people the worst,” he said.

He had also addressed disappointed Harris supporters after the 2024 presidential election. After Donald Trump’s win, Plies told people who backed Harris that the result didn’t mean their beliefs were wrong.

“Just because some results didn’t go how you foreseen them to go, it doesn’t mean you wrong about anything,” Plies said.
