Portmore hold off Violette to join Mt Pleasant in Concacaf Cup final
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Portmore United have qualified for the final of the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup and the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup after beating Haitian club Violette 4-3 on aggregate despite losing Wednesday’s return-leg semi-final 2-1 at Sabina Park. Portmore had won the first leg 3-1 and will meet defending champions Mount Pleasant Academy in the all-Jamaica final of the 2026 Caribbean Cup on December 1 and 5, respectively. At least one Jamaican team has been in the Caribbean Cup final in each of the last four years and this will be the first time that two Jamaican clubs will be in the final of the Caribbean Club Championship since 2004 when Harbour View took on Tivoli Gardens. On Wednesday, Portmore added to their overall lead when Tedj Bryan scored in the 21st minute. Violette rallied with two late goals but just failed to at least tie up the scores. Maxime Jeanty scored in the 73rd minute and Roberto Jean scored in the 83rd minute to cut the deficit to one. — Paul A Reid
