Pryce claims third at Athlos 26 in London

National record holder Nickisha Pryce was the only Jamaican to get a podium finish at the Athlos London 26 meet in England after placing third in the women’s 400m on Friday. Four Jamaicans competed at the athletics meet, which is open to women only, and offers lucrative prizes. Pryce, who placed third at last weekend’s World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, ran 49.39 seconds on Friday. It was her third fastest of the season. Pryce’s Jamaican compatriot Stacey Ann Williams was fifth in 50.11. World leader Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic ran 48.73 to break her own meeting record of 49.59, set two years ago in New York. Henriette Jaeger broke her own Norwegian record to place second in 48.78. Another Jamaican Danielle Williams was fourth in the 100m hurdles with 12.63 (1.2m/s), closely followed by her country woman Megan Simmonds (12.66). American Alaysha Johnson won with 12.50, just ahead of Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan (12.51). Bahamian national record holder Devynne Charlton was third with 12.63. Elsewhere on Friday, Jamaican national champion Demisha Roswell won the 100m hurdles event at the 72nd staging of the ORLEN Memoriał Janusza Kusocinskiego held in Chorzow, Poland — a World Athletics Continental Tour silver meet. A week after competing at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, Roswell clocked 12.83 (0.5m/s) for her third win in Europe this season. Japan’s Yumi Tanaka was second with 12.94 and Maayke Tjin A-Lim of the Netherlands was third with 12.97. Roswell is the fastest Jamaican in the women’s 100m hurdles so far this year after she ran a big personal best 12.40 to win the event at the national senior championships in mid-year.
