Queen Latifah Says “The Voice” Battle Cracked Her Ring

Queen Latifah joked that “The Voice” singers owed her a ring after their performance cracked its stone.

The moment came when Mia Knight and Sophia Liano sang “Never Enough” from “The Greatest Showman.” Both singers were on her team, leaving the Hip-Hop star to choose who would stay.

“I literally had to take my ring off because I cracked the stone on here on one of those notes,” she said. She joked that a win on the show could settle the bill.

Knight won the Battle and advanced to Cut Week.

For Latifah, the choice came down to how the young singer handled the microphone and claimed the stage. She praised both contestants, then explained why she wanted to keep working with Knight.

The coach also drew on her own start in music. She noted that Knight was 16 and that her own first record came out when she was 17. She felt the teen was ready for the next round.

Latifah had already pushed hard to work with Knight. During the September 21 season premiere, she turned her chair first as Knight sang Sienna Spiro’s “You Stole The Show.” Riley Green and Clarkson followed, while Adam Levine stayed put.

The new First In button let the first coach claim an artist without waiting for the singer to pick a team. Each coach could use it once. Latifah used hers on Knight, cutting short the competition for the New Jersey singer.

Season 30 marked Latifah’s first turn as a coach on the NBC series, joining Clarkson, Levine and Green. Knight’s next test comes in Cut Week in November.
