Rick Ross‘ son told police a man hit him in the head with a gun after a death threat that brought up his famous dad.
William Roberts III said the attack took place near his college in Daytona Beach on October 11. WFTV shared his account in an October 20 report based on police records.
Roberts said he was on a sidewalk with a woman when a driver pulled up and aimed a gun at him.
“I don’t care who your daddy is, I’ll kill you right here,” the man said, per the account WFTV cited.
Roberts said the man then struck him with the gun. Police noted slight swelling on the right side of his head, but he said he did not need medical care.
He later picked a suspect out of a photo lineup. Police checked city cameras but found no video of the attack.
Roberts plays football at Bethune-Cookman University. He is the son of Rick Ross and Tia Kemp, but his path to the school was built on years of work on the field.
The school announced his signing in 2024. He had played at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale and helped his team win four state titles in four years.
In a 2024 profile, the Daytona Beach News-Journal asked Roberts what it was like to grow up with a star for a dad. He said that life in the spotlight had become normal to him, though he knew most kids did not share that life.
His ties to coach Raymond Woodie Jr. helped draw him to the school, even with offers from larger football programs. He also liked that he could stay in Florida.
“It just felt like home,” Roberts said at the time.
Once there, his goal was to help the team win. He told the paper he did not mind where coaches put him, as long as he could do his part. His choice came down to the bond he felt with the coach and the people in the program.
WFTV placed the alleged attack at McLeod Avenue and Weaver Street. Its report gave no motive or word of an arrest.
