Rihanna & A$AP Rocky Shooter Ruled Mentally Competent To Face Trial

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s home became a war zone when a Florida woman unloaded an AR-15 into their Beverly Hills property, and now a judge has ruled that the shooter is mentally competent to stand trial.

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, from Orlando, was arrested within hours of the March 8 shooting after law enforcement tracked her to the Sherman Oaks Galleria parking lot.

The incident left eight people inside the residence, including Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their three children, Rihanna’s mother, and two staff members, all facing the terror of multiple rounds fired at the home.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman laid out the charges against Ortiz, explaining that she drove up to the property around 1:20 p.m. and opened fire with a semi-automatic weapon.

The attack wasn’t random.

Ortiz had been obsessed with Rihanna for months, posting on social media about the singer and claiming Rihanna wanted to kill her.

According to reporting on the incident, Ortiz had previously been involuntarily committed and had lost custody of her child, raising serious questions about her mental state leading up to the shooting.

Rihanna described the terrifying moment to police, explaining how she suddenly heard approximately ten loud sounds like something banging on metal.

She woke A$AP Rocky, pushed him to the ground, and they both ran into the house to safety.

The incident took away a lot of peace and happiness from the family, with A$AP Rocky opening up about the experience.

“It was hurtful. It was scary. Somebody attempted at me and my family and it was unprovoked. It was out of nowhere,” Rocky said, describing how the shooting stripped away his sense of security.

Ortiz remains jailed in lieu of $1.875 million bail while facing multiple charges including attempted murder.

The mental competency ruling means she’ll now proceed through the criminal justice system, though her history of mental health issues will likely play a role in her defense strategy.

If convicted on all charges, Ortiz faces up to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
