Run-DMC joined Aerosmith for “Walk This Way” at the Hollywood Bowl on November 1, two days after DMC was involved in a Los Angeles freeway crash.
The appearance followed a collision on October 30 that prompted his management to update AllHipHop on the rapper and the other people involved.
“Yes he’s okay, they got into a accident on the freeway but everyone is okay,” a representative told AllHipHop.
The collision involved a garbage truck. Video obtained by AllHipHop showed DMC standing and talking with fire department personnel.
NBC Los Angeles reported that DMC complained of minor pain. The California Highway Patrol received the collision call at 11:43 A.M. that Friday on the eastbound 105 Freeway near the 110 Freeway.
By Sunday night, he and Rev Run were part of Aerosmith’s closing set in Los Angeles. The band played seven songs to finish the second of its two “California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends” shows.
Aerosmith began “Walk This Way” before stopping to bring out the rap duo.
“This song ain’t the song without some people,” Steven Tyler told the crowd from the stage.
Rev Run and DMC entered from opposite sides of the stage. Aerosmith drummers Joey Kramer and John Douglas both played on the song as the groups performed together.
Tyler also pointed to the history they shared: “We broke through the wall together and showed the world what they was missing.”
The performance carried a reminder of their 1986 collaboration, too. Joe Perry used the same Guild X-100 Bladerunner guitar he played in the original “Walk This Way” video.
Run-DMC had been announced for the Hollywood Bowl shows on October 7, weeks before the crash. The official bill covered the October 29 and November 1 concerts and said the guest lineup would vary by night.
Guns N’ Roses, the Black Crowes and Heart performed songs from Aerosmith’s catalog before the band took over for its own set.
Despite host Bill Burr describing the concerts as Aerosmith’s last shows, Tyler rejected that idea on November 1. The Hollywood Bowl appearance ended the two-show run without settling the band’s future.
