Sacha Baron Cohen Leads 300 Ali G Look-Alikes Through London Ahead Of Movie Return

Sacha Baron Cohen led 300 Ali G look-alikes through London on Sunday as fans joined him for a day built around his new movie. The trip ended with a contest to pick the best double.

Cohen wore Ali G’s yellow outfit for the trip, staying in character as the crowd made its way through the city. Fans came dressed for the part, too, with some adding fake goatees and wraparound shades to match his look.

As The Hollywood Reporter reports, Cohen picked a winner at Cineworld Leicester Square after a boat party on the Thames and stops near Big Ben and Marble Arch.

Getting that many versions of the same character around town took four double-decker buses. The group also stopped at McDonald’s, where the food order ran to hundreds of burgers.

In a statement, Cohen joked in Ali G’s voice that he had a plan to keep the event going.

“Dis haz gone so well me iz gonna make it an annual event every five years,” he said.

The official trailer offers a look at the film behind Sunday’s gathering.

The London trip comes as Ali G is also stepping into Druski’s world.

As AllHipHop reported, Druski shared news of their team-up on Instagram Saturday. The two have “Old Heads” auditions planned for East Brooklyn Studio on Monday at 11 a.m., with a call for people who are at least 40.

The team-up has drawn criticism over Ali G’s use of Black and Jamaican culture, a debate that has followed the character for years.

Ali G spoofs a white man trying to act Black, and critics have long questioned who the joke is really aimed at. Druski’s own sketches also use larger-than-life characters, though the London contest was a separate event from their Brooklyn plans.

Ali G first appeared on Britain’s “The 11 O’Clock Show” in 1998, before “Da Ali G Show” and the 2002 movie “Ali G Indahouse” gave the character more room to work.

AllHipHop covered the new movie in July. This time, Ali G faces a change at home: his longtime girlfriend, Julie, is eight months pregnant. With a child on the way, he heads to America to try to recapture his old success, according to the film’s official synopsis.

Cohen stars in the new film and directs his first feature. “Ali G: Who Iz I?” reaches UK theaters October 23 through Amazon MGM Studios.
