Safe passage caps outstanding marlin season with third-consecutive Tony Myers trophy
THE Mayberry Investments Fishing Team aboard the Viking 62 Safe Passage has capped a standout 2026 season by winning the Tony Myers Trophy, awarded to Jamaica’s top sportfishing boat, for the third-consecutive year (2024, 2025 and 2026). The honour comes after four tournament victories, from January’s rescheduled 2025 Sir Henry Morgan Angling Association (SHMAA) tournament to the 2026 SHMAA tournament, which concluded on Saturday, October 17. Under Captain Adrian Da Silva the season opened in Port Antonio with the 2025 SHMAA tournament, held in January 2026. Safe Passage delivered a commanding performance at the 62nd staging, releasing nine of the 12 marlin released by the entire fleet to take the title. In September the team successfully defended its Montego Bay crown at the 65th Montego Bay International Marlin Tournament. Six blue marlin releases over three days, four of them tagged, secured back-to-back victories and a final tally of 1,650 points. Absolutely Special placed second with three releases, followed by Fishy Biz with two. October brought two more victories in Port Antonio. At the Mayberry Investments Superstars of Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament, held October 8–10 at Errol Flynn Marina, the team recorded four blue marlin and three sailfish releases. Dominic Gordon earned the Top Angler prize, adding an individual honour to the team’s win. One week later, Safe Passage returned for the 63rd SHMAA tournament, held October 15–17 at The Ole Marina. The team opened with three releases on the first day, added two on the second, and finished with two on Saturday, securing victory with seven releases from twelve hookups. Chris Berry took the Top Angler award with four releases. Across these four tournaments, Safe Passage recorded 29 billfish releases, beginning and ending the season with SHMAA victories. The season’s angling line-up included Chris Berry, Mark Berry, Dominic Gordon, Leighton Wade, Issiah Aleong and Kevin Mann. Together with Captain Adrian Da Silva and the crew, their performances brought both team trophies and individual honours aboard Safe Passage. Four tournament wins in one season are an achievement to celebrate. Winning the Tony Myers Trophy in three consecutive years adds a broader distinction — sustained performance across Jamaica’s tournament circuit. For the Mayberry Investments Fishing Team the 2026 season strengthened a record built on preparation, teamwork and a shared passion for sportfishing. Mayberry Investments Limited continues to lend its support to the sports fraternity in Jamaica as it contributes to national development.
