Seiveright meets with Indecom leadership over Red Hills Road police killing

KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Member of Parliament for St Andrew North Central and minister of state in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Delano Seiveright met with senior officials of the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom) on Monday regarding the recent fatal shooting of a resident in the constituency. Among the Indecom officials at the meeting held at the commission's New Kingston headquarters was Indecom Commissioner Hugh Faulkner, according to a release from Seiveright's office on Monday. On September 16, the police fatally shot 35-year-old Shane Cassaonor on Karl Samuda Avenue popularly known as Black Ants Lane, off Red Hills Road. The incident sparked major protests and roadblocks along Red Hills Road, prompting Seiveright to intervene directly with residents and the police to clear the roads and restore calm. READ: Fiery roadblock on Red Hills Road as residents protest fatal police shooting Seiveright called for a thorough, impartial and timely investigation and urged eyewitnesses, or anyone with video or other information, to come forward. “The family and community want justice. I strongly encourage witnesses to cooperate with Indecom. Anyone who witnessed or have relevant information will be fully protected,” Seiveright said. He said he will continue to closely follow the investigation.
