Shyne Too Traumatized To Want A Girlfriend After Divorce

Shyne says his divorce left him unwilling to take on another relationship, even as he gets back to making music about his life.

The rapper discussed the split on Drink Champs. He said he and his ex-wife had been apart for about five years before they divorced.

He praised her as a person and said they still take family vacations with their daughter. He explained that his reluctance to commit again comes from the pain of a marriage ending.

“Not because of her, but because I can’t afford that type of trauma. I do not want a relationship. I don’t want a girlfriend,” he said.

Shyne also tied the discussion to his lyrics. He wanted listeners to understand his current life before hearing songs that might sound odd from a married man.

That personal shift sits alongside a return to the stage. As AllHipHop reported in July, his 2622 LGND Tour grew out of a sold-out May 2 show at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.

The show marked the 25th anniversary of his debut album and his first American headlining concert in more than a decade. The announced tour brings Barrington Levy and Lil’ Cease back into his live plans, with DJ Rampage and Stig Da Artist on the bill.

Levy has a direct place in Shyne’s history. He appeared on “Bad Boyz” and “Bonnie & Shyne,” two singles from Shyne’s gold-certified self-titled debut. The album peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in 2000. Godfather Buried Alive followed, debuting at No. 3 in 2004.

The announced route opens October 21 at Denver’s Ogden Theatre and ends December 5 in Miami. The July rollout listed 13 confirmed stops, with more planned.
