Snoop Dogg found a new hire for Dr. Bombay in the concert world, choosing Australian violinist Annabelle Traves for a three-month ice cream tasting job worth $30,000.
The Dubai-based musician landed the remote role after a search that drew more than 350,000 applicants. Hiring partner Deel announced her selection on October 28. The contract pays $10,000 a month.
Her concert career has included Carnegie Hall in New York. Traves used her violin to make her case. According to SmartCompany, her application included a version of “Young, Wild & Free,” the Snoop, Wiz Khalifa and Bruno Mars hit.
The outlet reported that recruiters cut the field to 50 people and interviewed each finalist. Snoop delivered the news to Traves himself in a video message made for her.
She told SmartCompany she considered acting as though she knew the finer points of making ice cream. Instead, she built her entry around music. Her advice from the experience was to use her strengths and put herself forward, even with long odds.
“I’ve spent my life training my ear, so I’m hoping my palate holds up to the same standard!” Traves said in a statement carried by Restaurant & Café.
Her assignment includes finding ideas for international flavors and helping develop an ice cream tied to Deel as Dr. Bombay explores new markets.
The distance had raised a practical question for Traves. She told SmartCompany she wondered whether an Australian living in Dubai without a U.S. visa could take the job. Deel had her signed up within 48 hours.
Dr. Bombay had already taken another step beyond supermarket shelves this year. As AllHipHop reported, the brand opened a Venice Beach storefront on April 19 beside Marathon Burger. Lil Baby joined the business as an investor and co-founder. That shop was announced as a venture running through October.
The beach location gave customers a place devoted to the brand, whose flavors included Baked Blueberry Muffin and peanut butter varieties. The boardwalk opening was billed as its first physical storefront.
Traves already had Australian desserts in mind. She told SmartCompany that lamington or pavlova could be ideas to try.
