Snoop Dogg‘s Costa Rica concert was canceled just days after the man behind it told fans it would go ahead, despite his arrest in a money-laundering case.
Stockwell Entretenimiento said the December 3 show at the Pedregal event center in Belén was off. The company said it reached a mutual agreement with Snoop and promised automatic refunds, but gave no reason for the cancellation or a date for fans to get their money back.
Just four days earlier, the same team had stood by the date and said it was still working on the show. Tickets had been sold through Publitickets.
The company’s owner, Don Stockwell, was arrested on October 7 and released the next morning in the Éxodo case. He has denied wrongdoing and remained under investigation following his release.
Police said they were looking at claims that a group used cash from drug sales to fund past concerts. Michael Soto, an official with the country’s Judicial Investigation Agency, said the artists who played those shows had no link to the case.
Soto said roughly $859,000 flowed into three events tied to Stockwell and fellow producer Hugo Barboza. Police were trying to learn whether the shows were used to make cash from alleged drug sales look like lawful earnings.
Police linked the money to a group they said was led by Edwin Vargas García, known as “Sobrino.” Soto said the events took place in 2024 and 2025, before Snoop’s planned December show.
Stockwell’s lawyer, Daniel Brenes, said his client worked with Barboza, who found people to fund shows. He said Stockwell did not know the man introduced to him as Edwin had been arrested in a drug case.
Meanwhile, Brenes told CRHoy that the prosecutor handling the case told him he planned to ask to have Stockwell held in jail. The hearing was still underway when Brenes spoke, and he said the request had not yet been made.
“Ticket refunds will be processed automatically, and in accordance with current Costa Rican law,” the company said in its Spanish-language statement.
Stockwell Entretenimiento did not announce a replacement date for Snoop’s performance.
