Stephen A. Smith Pulls Episode After False $25M Teyana Taylor Divorce Claim

Stephen A. Smith has pulled a podcast episode and told Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert he was wrong after spreading false claims about their divorce.

The ESPN host owned up to the error in a video posted over the weekend and retracted words wrongly attributed to Shumpert, which made it seem the former NBA star had spoken against the mother of his children.

“Those statements were inaccurate, and I want to sincerely apologize to both Iman Shumpert and Teyana Taylor,” Smith said.

The claims came up on “The Culture Table” as Smith and his guests talked about whether men could trust women with their money. Smith had claimed Taylor received $25 million and other assets while Shumpert was left with about $2 million and no home.

He has now walked back those figures.

Smith said he spoke with Taylor himself and personally apologized to both her and Shumpert. As head of Straight Shooter Media, he took the blame, saying his team should have checked the claims before putting them on air.

He also made clear that a claim doesn’t become a fact just because it gets shared online

The singer has fought these claims before. In March 2025, Taylor challenged reports about the split, saying a judge split their assets and that she and her ex had not shared the deal online.

She claimed Shumpert leaked sealed court records and said the stories fueled attacks on her. His lawyer, Stephen C. Steele, denied that his client had given those details to the press.

“My client, Mr. Iman Shumpert, has never whatsoever leaked any allegations or claims stated in any of the pleadings,” Steele said at the time, as AllHipHop reported.

Smith had also said he was sorry earlier in the week for his remarks about Eagles lineman Lane Johnson, who left the NFL to focus on his mental health.

While the Taylor-Shumpert episode is gone, Smith said his apology will stay online so viewers can see him take back what he said.
