Tinashe Tells Republican Fans “Yall Can Go” Over Election Day Backlash

Tinashe made it clear that keeping Republican listeners was not more important than saying where she stood on Election Day.
The singer opened with a blunt get-out-the-vote post on X. “VOTE OR DIE ! LETS GO AMERICA,” she wrote, followed by 12 blue hearts. The hearts appeared to signal support for Democrats, and some conservative followers immediately objected.
One critic accused her of refusing to listen to supporters and asked why she included blue hearts. The user also said she was alienating her “red audience.” Tinashe did not soften the message. “Yall can go ✌️,” she replied.
That exchange went further than a routine voting reminder.
Tinashe was responding directly to the idea that an artist should avoid partisan politics so fans on the other side will keep listening. When another user dismissed the election as an illusion, she answered with a simple “Lame !!!!”
Her position is not new. Before the 2020 presidential election, Tinashe told Pitchfork that another Trump term would harm groups his administration had failed to protect. She closed that statement with: “Vote for Joe Biden, period.”
On Election Day that year, she also appeared at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, as the venue served as a vote center. Tinashe told ABC7 Los Angeles that she wanted to “encourage my fans to come vote” and get young people involved.
This year’s dispute came as Tinashe enjoys a major run in her independent career.
Her album Popstar was released September 25 and became her first Top 10 album on the Billboard 200. AllHipHop reported that it debuted at No. 6, well above the No. 17 peak of her 2014 album Aquarius.
She also announced an 18-stop North American tour that starts April 14, 2027, in Dallas. The tour followed three sold-out “3 Nights With A Popstar” dates in Chicago, Brooklyn and Los Angeles. That momentum gave fresh weight to complaints about what Republican customers had spent on her music.
Politics also appears in Tinashe’s recent work. On “Crash Out,” she sings, “The American dream is outdated.”
In an October profile, she said the country is balancing that dream against the reality many people live.
One critic told Tinashe that Republican fans had supported her financially even when they disagreed with her politics. The user said those listeners respected her, accused her of telling them to leave and announced that they would stop listening.
Tinashe’s answer was four words long: “I do not care.”
